교토에 본사를 둔 부동산 전문 기업 사쿠라(さくら)가 신발 사업을 확장하고 있다. 지난 7월 12일 교토 아라시야마에 니시진오리를 활용한 일본 스니커즈 ‘후가(フーガ)’ 직영점을 열었고, 올해 4월 이후에는 유럽 신발 2개 브랜드의 일본 총판도 시작했다. 기존의 부동산, 숙박, 외식 사업 외에 유통과 패션 사업에도 주력하는 모습이다.

후가 직영점은 게이후쿠 전철 아라시야마역 바로 근처에 위치하고 일본풍 외관과 흰색을 기본으로 한 내부 디자인이 특징이다. 사쿠라 시너지 매니지먼트 부문의 타카다 마유(髙田麻友) 서포트 멤버는 인바운드 관광객이 많은 관광지인 이곳에서 “아라시야마 지역에서 후가 직영점으로 일본의 장점을 세계에 알리고 싶다”면서 이 장소를 선택했다고 밝혔다. 매장 면적은 18제곱미터로, 개점 후 예상대로 인바운드 관광객의 방문이 두드러졌다. 향후에도 인바운드 고객과 국내 고객의 비율을 약 8대 2로 예상하고 있다.

운동화 Fugue에는 세 가지 모델이 있다

후가 스니커즈는 니시진의 전통 직물인 금란(金襴)을 갑피 소재로 사용한다. 띠 하나로 약 30켤레만 생산할 수 있고, 한 켤레마다 다른 패턴을 가진다는 특징이 있다. 시즌별 꽃무늬나 길조를 나타내는 무늬 등 다양한 의미를 담고 있다.

신발 끈은 나라 시대부터 계승된 교토 우지의 전통 기법인 ‘교 쿠미히모(京組みひも)’를 사용해 표면에 깊은 음영과 입체감이 있는 아름다운 엮인 무늬가 나타난다. 밑창은 이탈리아 ‘비브람(ヴィブラム)’의 ‘메가그립(メガグリップ)’ 솔을 채용했다. 뛰어난 접지력과 유연성으로 도심 보행부터 여행지까지 모든 상황에서 편안한 보행을 돕는다. 제조는 도쿄의 신발 제조업체에 의뢰하고 있다.

4월에 발매된 스위스의 프리미엄 테크 슈즈 ‘GNL’

현재는 편하게 신을 수 있는 슬립온(세금 포함 40,700엔), 클래식한 컵솔(41,800엔), 볼륨감 있는 두꺼운 굽 타입 ‘RGS'(46,200엔)의 3가지 모델이 있다. 사이즈는 유니섹스로 23~28센티미터이며, 인바운드 고객 중 29센티미터 이상을 찾는 경우가 많아 이에 대한 대응을 검토 중이다. 판로는 자사 전자상거래(EC)를 통해 이루어진다. 향후 도매 판매나 기온 등 교토다운 입지로의 출점도 검토하고 있으나, 생산량이 한정적이어서 당분간은 직영점과 EC를 통해 판매할 예정이다.

사쿠라는 올봄부터 상사 사업을 본격화했다. 스위스에서 시작된 프리미엄 테크 슈즈 ‘GNL’의 일본 국내 판매 총판을 시작했으며, GNL은 그룹 계열사인 스포츠관 미츠하시(京都市)와 도쿄 백화점에 도매로 공급되고 있다. 4월부터는 스위스 프리미엄 테크 슈즈 ‘GNL’을 발매했다.

8월 하순부터 발매되는 런닝화 ‘Hi-Lo Impact’

2023년 스포츠관 미츠하시를 사업 승계하는 등 그룹 내 유통 기업이 늘어나는 가운데, “강점이 되는 독자적인 브랜드를 갖추겠다”는 목표를 가지고 있다. 또한 영국에서 시작된 퍼포먼스 러닝 브랜드 ‘하일로 애슬레틱스(ハイロアスレティクス)’의 일본 총판도 시작했고, 1차 런닝화 ‘하일로 임팩트’는 8월 하순에 발매될 예정이다.

사쿠라는 2023년 의상 대여 업체인 시바마스(柴増, 京都市)를 사업 승계하는 등 “역사 있는 기업을 남기겠다”는 노력을 지난 2년여간 추진해왔다. 2024년에는 미에현 이세시의 이세 씨 파라다이스(수족관)를, 같은 해 2월에는 사가현 사가시의 사가 타마야(백화점)의 경영권을 인수하는 등 유통 및 패션 사업을 확대하고 있다.
