타투에서 영감을 받아 러블리하고 펑키한 걸코어룩을 선보이는 브랜드가 있다. 바로 여성 디자이너 브랜드 허그유어스킨(hug your skin, 대표 최고은)이다. 이 브랜드는 MZ세대 사이에서 유니크한 브랜드로 주목받아 단기간에 빠르게 성장했다.
최고은 대표(이하 최 대표)는 ‘허그유어스킨’을 론칭하기 전에 타투이스트로 활동했고, 당시 20대 초반의 손님들에게 인기가 높은 추상화 타투를 작업했다.
최 대표가 타투이스트 때 허그 타투(hug_tatto)라는 닉네임으로 활동했는데, 이는 ‘타투가 사람을 안아준다’는 의미였다. 여기서 탄생한 브랜드명 허그유어스킨(hug your skin)은 ‘포근하게 안아주는 옷을 만들고 싶다’라는 뜻으로 지어졌다.
패션디자인을 전공한 그녀는 타투이스트로 일하던 시절, 호기심에 타투 도안을 새긴 굿즈를 네이버 스마트스토어에서 판매했고, 타투 매출을 뛰어넘을 만큼 인기가 좋았다. 이에 최 대표는 굿즈로 판매하던 형식을 패션 브랜드로 전환해 지난 2022년 2월에 정식 론칭하게 된 것이다.
브랜드 초기 때부터 선보인 타투 프린팅의 로코코 오너먼츠 티(Rococo ornaments T)는 허그유어스킨의 대표 시그니처 아이템이다. 베스트 셀러 제품이기도 한 해당 아이템은 지금까지 1만 장 가까이 판매했다. 해당 제품에 영감을 받아 이어서 출시한 후드 집업, 반팔 티셔츠, 긴팔 티셔츠도 고객들에게 인기가 높다.
브랜드의 주요 고객은 10대 후반에서 20대 초반의 여성이다. 젊은 MZ세대가 타깃인 만큼, 허그유어스킨은 스트리트 감성과 서브 컬처에 속하는 타투, 그리고 대중문화를 조합해 컬렉션을 전개하고 있다.
제품 가격대는 이번 2024 FW 컬렉션 기준 헤비아우터가 20만원대, 재킷과 바람막이가 10만원 중후반대, 티셔츠가 5만원대이다. 하의류는 조거 팬츠가 9~10만원 초반대, 카고 팬츠가 14만원대로 두 팬츠 모두 판매율이 높다. 스커트의 경우 미디 스커트가 10만원대, 롱 스커트가 12만원대로 판매한다.
또한 올해 3번 진행한 팝업스토어가 모두 흥행했다. 지난 3월에는 더현대 서울에서 총 7일간 팝업을 운영해 1억원의 매출을 기록했다. 이어 부산 전포에서 진행한 팝업스토어에서도 고객들의 발길이 끊이지 않았을 정도로 큰 성과를 거뒀다. 가장 최근에 진행한 성수 팝업스토어는 더현대 서울 팝업의 매출인 1억원을 훌쩍 뛰어넘을 정도로 큰 반응을 불러 일으켰다.
허그유어스킨은 현재 무신사와 29CM, 러드에서 온라인으로 판매하고 있고, 오프라인 판매는 무신사 홍대와 합정에 위치한 에버닌스테어스에 숍인숍으로 이뤄지고 있다.
해외에서도 러브콜이 이어지고 있다. 일본의 경우 라포레 하라주쿠 쇼핑센터 안에 있는 LHP 편집숍에 입점돼 있고, 중국에서는 올해 4월부터 편집숍 걸스마켓에서 판매 중이다. 더불어 상하이에서 진행한 2025 SS Alter showroom 수주회에 참여해 홀세일 거래를 진행했다.
최 대표는 “앞으로 해외 진출로 일본 단독 팝업스토어를 오픈하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 다음 시즌 컬렉션을 일본에서 촬영한 후 매거진에 노출해 일본 고객들을 늘려갈 계획이다”라고 포부를 밝혔다.
허그유어스킨은 올해 연 매출 17억원을 예상하는 가운데, 2025년에는 서울 연남동이나 홍대 근처에 플래그십 스토어를 오픈해 매출 성장을 도모할 계획이다.
