롯데백화점(대표 정준호)이 국내 유통업계 최초로 ‘재생에너지구매계약(Power Purchase Agreement, 이하 PPA)’를 도입하며, ‘2040 탄소 중립’ 목표 달성을 위한 ESG 경영 실천에 박차를 가한다.
이번 PPA 도입은 에너지 효율 개선을 넘어 재생에너지 사용 비중을 직접적으로 확대하는 핵심 전략이다. 롯데백화점은 에너지 효율화 및 재생에너지로의 전환을 위해 PPA 사업을 시작하고, 시범 운영을 통해 경제성과 안정성을 검토한 후 본격적인 도입을 확대할 예정이다. 
롯데백화점은 이달 초, 프리미엄아울렛 파주점에 PPA 방식을 시범 도입했다. 롯데백화점의 PPA 방식은 한국전력공사가 거래를 중개하는 제3자 PPA다. 부대 비용 부담은 높은 편이지만 전력 공급의 안정성을 확보하고 장기적으로 점포를 확대해 나가는 데는 좀 더 안정적이고 효율적인 방법이다. 발전사가 1.1MW 규모의 태양광 발전사에서 생산한 전기를 한전망에 공급하면, 롯데백화점은 해당 전력에 대해 일반 산업용 전기요금이 아닌 PPA 계약요금을 적용 받게 된다.
파주점은 이번 PPA 도입으로 기존 자가소비형 태양광 264kW를 포함해 재생에너지 사용 비율이 13%가 됐으며, 연간으로는 자가소비형 태양광과 PPA를 통한 재생에너지 발전량이 총 1,851MWh에 달하게 됐다. 이는 연간 863톤의 온실가스를 감축하는 효과이자 소나무 6,179그루를 심은 효과와 동일하며, 30평대의 아파트 514세대의 연간 사용량에 해당하는 청정 전력량이다.
파주점은 PPA 도입 전에도 환경 경영을 위한 다양한 설비를 선제적으로 구축해왔다. 태양광 발전현황 모니터링 시스템을 운영해 고객들이 재생에너지 사용량 및 온실가스 감축량을 직접 확인할 수 있으며, 친환경차 확산에 기여하고자 총 47대의 전기차 충전기를 운영하는 등 에너지 자립과 탄소 중립을 위한 노력을 다하고 있다.
롯데백화점은 이번 프리미엄아울렛 파주점 PPA 시범 사업을 통해 확보한 성공 모델을 바탕으로 재생에너지 전환을 가속화해, 오는 2030년까지 총 266MW의 PPA를 조달해 나갈 예정이다.
한편, 롯데백화점은 업계 최초로 환경 경영을 선포한 이후 지속가능한 가치를 선보이며 대외적으로도 높은 평가를 받고 있다. 2024년에는 환경재단이 선정한 ‘대한민국 올해의 ESG 기업’으로 선정됐으며, 보건복지부와 한국사회복지협의회가 주관하는 ‘지역사회공헌 인정제’에서도 ESG 성과를 인정받았다.
또한, 에너지 효율화를 위해 연 100억을 투자, 고효율 냉동기·보일러 도입, 인버터형 시스템 에어컨 도입, 냉동기 세관, 고효율 펌프·모터 교체 등을 진행하고, 이를 통해 온실가스 7,283톤을 감축해 2024년 한국에너지대상 에너지 효율향상 분야에서 장관상을 수상하기도 했다.
김혜라 프리미엄아울렛 파주점장은 “PPA 도입은 미래 세대를 위한 지속 가능한 유통 환경을 구축하겠다는 확고한 약속”이라며, “앞으로도 탄소 중립을 위한 ESG 경영 모델을 다양하게 선보일 것“이라고 밝혔다.
