북유럽 덴마크의 디자인 생활용품 브랜드 ‘플라잉 타이거 코펜하겐’이 국내 매장 철수를 결정해 관심이 쏠리고 있다.
‘플라잉 타이거 코펜하겐’은 현재 롯데월드몰, 하남스타필드, 고속터미널, 의왕타임빌라스, 고양스타필드, 안성스타필드, 롯데동탄점, 부천스타필드, 스퀘어원, 수원스타필드, 롯데광복점, 삼정타워 등 총 12개점을 운영 중이었는데, 이번 철수는 직진출 법인의 일방적 결정해 따라서 3월 1일자 전체 점포가 중단된 상태다.
철수 통보를 받은 유통가는 매장 철수와 함께 제품 판매에도 적잖은 영향을 미칠 것으로 보고 있다. 특히 삼정타워 경우는 현재 1층에 자리 잡고 있는 ‘플라잉 타이거 코페하겐’ 매장에 천막으로 덮어 영업을 중단한 상태다.
쇼핑몰 한 관계자는 “’일방적 철수 통보’도 당혹스럽지만, 그보다 더한 것은 현재 플라잉타이거코리아측과 연락이 닿지 않고 있다는 것입니다. 연락도 닿지 않아 매장을 정리할 수도 없고, 공간을 활용을 못해 멈춰있는 상태라서 손실이 이만저만한 게 아닙니다”라며 하소연했다.
이어 “하루 속히 해결되어야 하지 않아, 이대로 방치된 부분에 대해서도 쇼핑몰에 대한 이미지도 연결돼 있어 걱정이다”라고 말했다.
‘플라잉 타이거 코펜하겐’의 이러한 급작스러운 철수 결정에는 국내에서의 경쟁력을 잃었기 때문이라는 분석이다. 인테리어 소품, 파티용품 등 펀(fun)하면서 유니크한 컬렉션들로 인기를 끌었지만 다른 브랜드에 비해 가성비 면에서 쫒아가지 못했다는 평가도 나오고 있다.
지난 2016년 한국에 처음 진출한 ‘플라잉 타이거 코펜하겐’은 국내 패션기업 위비스그룹과 독점 운영 계약을 맺었다. 그 당시 이 브랜드의 진출은 아시아에서는 일본에 이은 두 번째 매장이어서 그 기대감은 더욱 컸다.
