무신사(대표 조만호 박준모)가 일본 패션 시장에서 입지를 강화하기 위해 오랫동안 현지 럭셔리·패션 비즈니스를 경험한 전문가를 현지 법인장으로 영입했다.

무신사는 일본 법인 ‘무신사 재팬(MUSINSA JAPAN)’의 신임 대표로 이케다 마이크(Ikeda Mike) 씨를 선임했다. 2021년 설립된 무신사 재팬은 일본 현지에서 온라인과 오프라인을 아우르며 ‘K-패션’ 브랜드의 일본 진출을 지원하고 있다.

이케다 대표는 25년 넘게 일본 패션 업계에서 활동한 베테랑이다. 1999년 나이키재팬에서 상품관리 매니저로 커리어를 시작해 리바이스 재팬에서 브랜드 디렉터를 맡았다. 오클리 재팬, 보스 재팬, 캐스 키드슨 재팬에서 일본 법인장을 역임했다. 다수의 글로벌 브랜드에서 상품 기획과 비즈니스 개발을 주도했으며, 2020년부터 올해 상반기까지 닥터 마틴 재팬의 대표를 맡았다.

무신사는 이번 인사로 일본 시장 내 K-패션 열풍을 확대할 계획이다. 이케다 대표의 합류로 무신사 재팬은 일본 현지에서 K-패션을 소개하고 유통하는 과정에서 더욱 전문성과 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 특히 이케다 대표는 상품 개발, 공급망 관리, 오프라인 매장 운영 등 다양한 영역에서 쌓아온 비즈니스 역량을 바탕으로 현지 브랜드 파트너십을 강화하고, 오프라인 채널 확장에도 속도를 낼 전망이다.

현재 무신사는 온라인에서 ‘무신사 글로벌 스토어’를 통해 3,000여개 브랜드를 일본 고객들에게 직접 소개하고 있다. 올해 3분기(7~9월) 무신사 글로벌 스토어 일본 지역의 거래액은 전년 동기 대비 120% 증가했고, 10월에는 전년 동월 대비 5배 이상 성장했다.

지난 6일에는 일본 패션 이커머스 ‘조조타운(ZOZOTOWN)’ 내에 무신사 숍을 정식 오픈했다. 국내 패션 브랜드는 무신사 스토어에 입점하는 것만으로 조조타운을 통한 상품 판매가 가능해졌다.

무신사 관계자는 “일본은 무신사의 글로벌 시장 진출 전략에서 중추적인 역할을 맡고 있는 핵심 지역 ”이라며, “현지 시장에 정통한 이케다 마이크 대표의 합류를 계기로 국내 디자이너 브랜드의 일본 유통망 확대와 온·오프라인 사업 성장을 더욱 본격화할 것”이라고 말했다.
