패션 테크 전문기업 커버써먼(대표 이재호)이 일본의 3대 종합상사인 이토추(伊藤忠商事)와 지난 2월 19일 서울 성수동에 위치한 커버써먼 본사에서 파트너십을 맺었다.
양측은 커버써먼 소재부품 브랜드인 ‘CVSM’의 기술과 이토추상사의 글로벌 네트워크를 통한 공동 상품 개발 및 사업 확장을 위해 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.
커버써먼이 이토추상사와 만난 첫 비즈니스 미팅은 지난해 8월 국내 최대 섬유 패션 전시회인 프리뷰인서울(PIS)에서 해외 여러 바이어들과 상담하는 과정에서 이뤄졌다. 당시 큰 관심을 받았던 커버써먼은 그해 12월 이토추상사의 섬유 컴퍼니 패션 어패럴 부문이 일본 현지에서 직접 주최하는 24AW 소재 전시회에 초청받게 됐다.
커버써먼은 이 소재 전시회에서 부스를 운영해 이토추상사의 다양한 계열사와 부서 등과 수많은 미팅이 이뤄졌고, 결국 높은 관심 속에 성공적인 행사로 마무리됐다. 이때 이토추상사는 커버써먼의 비즈니스를 디테일하게 분석한 후 회사의 비전과 기술을 높게 평가하게 돼 이번 양해각서 체결로 이어졌다.

또한 회사 브랜드인 ‘키크(keek)’로도 완제품을 생산해 직접 국내 온라인 판매를 비롯해 해외 수출, 오프라인 편집숍 입점 등을 통해 직접적인 리테일에 나서 매출을 높이고 있다. 대표적인 해외 수출 국가는 대만이다. 최근에 대만에 유통 사업을 하는 한 기업과 총판 계약을 맺었다. 작년에만 1만 개의 상품을 오더하는 등 그간 비즈니스를 통해 신뢰를 쌓은 해당 기업과 정식 총판 계약을 맺어 보다 적극적인 비즈니스를 펼칠 계획이다.
