노스페이스가 서울 성수동에 새롭게 선보인 ‘노스페이스 화이트라벨 성수 직영점’이 별도의 홍보 없이 가오픈(PRE OPEN)을 진행했음에도 불구하고, 오픈 전날 밤부터 긴 대기 행렬이 이어지면서 높은 관심을 입증했다.

29일 가오픈 전날 밤부터 약 100여 명이 밤샘 대기를 했고, 30일 가오픈 당일 매장 오픈 전에는 줄이 200명 이상으로 늘어났다. 이러한 현상은 하루종일 이어졌다.

이번 성수점은 화이트라벨 라인의 새로운 플래그십 스토어 콘셉트가 도입된 공간으로, 내부 전체를 ‘돔(Dome)’ 모티브로 설계해 하나의 캠프를 체험하는 형태로 완성했다. 아웃도어 브랜드의 정체성을 공간적으로 드러내기 위한 시도로, 매장 전반에 걸쳐 텐트 구조에서 영감을 받은 프레임 디자인이 적용됐다.

이 프레임은 실내뿐 아니라 외벽 라이트 연출과도 연결돼 있어, 밤이 되면 은은한 빛이 건물 외관을 감싸며 도시 속 캠핑 감성을 전달한다. 내부 일부 구조물은 향후 단계적으로 완성될 예정이다.

층별 구성도 뚜렷하다. 1층은 ‘서울 트렌드’라는 키워드 아래 현재 시장에서 가장 주목받는 제품군을 배치했다. 대표적으로 ‘벤투스 온 자켓’과 ‘웨이브 온볼 자켓’, 눕시 재킷을 트렌디하게 재해석해 출시한 글로시한 광택감과 셔링 디테일이 눈에 띄는 ‘엘라 눕시 다운 재킷’ 등이 자리해 방문객들의 관심을 끌었다.

2층은 노스페이스의 본질적 아웃도어 영역인 ‘요세미티 DNA’를 담아낸 공간으로, 최근 경량 다운 시장에서 주목받는 마테호른 시리즈가 전면에 배치됐다. 3층 루프탑은 실제 캠프 분위기를 구현한 라운지형 공간으로 구성해, 단순 쇼핑을 넘어 브랜드를 체험할 수 있도록 했다.

특히 이번 가오픈에 많은 인파가 몰린 배경으로는 국내 1등 아웃도어 브랜드 노스페이스가 해외 관광객까지 몰리는 성수의 핵심 상권에 문을 열었다는 점, 그리고 젊은 층에게 인기가 높은 화이트라벨의 첫 단독 매장이라는 상징성이 꼽힌다.

여기에 최근 없어서 못 파는 수준으로 품절 사태를 빚고 있는 인기 제품 일부가 성수점에서 먼저 풀렸다는 점도 기대를 자극해 오픈 열기를 더했다.

예상 이상의 대기 수요가 발생하면서 매장 측은 키오스크 기반 예약 시스템을 긴급 도입해 대기 인원을 관리했고, 인기 품목에 대해서는 1인 1개 구매 제한 조치도 시행했다.

현재 성수점은 가오픈 중으로, 정식 오픈은 11월 중 예정돼 있다. 성수 특유의 트렌디한 분위기와 노스페이스의 아웃도어 정체성이 결합된 공간으로, 정식 오픈 이후에는 열기가 더 뜨거워질 전망이다.

강대홍 노스페이스 직영팀 팀장은 “정식 오픈이 아니라, 프리오픈이어서 특별히 홍보를 전혀하지 않았는데도 고객들이 몰려 높은 인기를 실감했다. 주변 매장과 상인에게 피해를 주지 않고, 고객의 경우는 무엇보다 안전에 신경을 쓰면서 원활한 운영을 위해 힘쓰고 있다. 노스페이스 화이트라벨 첫 로드숍 매장에 많은 관심을 가져 주는 것에 감사할 따름이다. 당분간 영업을 하면서 빠른 시일 내에 다소 미흡한 부분을 마무리한 다음 11월 초에 정식 오픈을 단행할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.
