친환경 종이팩 패키징 솔루션 스타트업 ‘리필리(대표 김재원)’가 넥스트드림엔젤클럽, 블루포인트파트너스, 롯데벤처스, 윤민창의재단으로부터 8억원의 시드 투자 유치를 완료했다고 8일 밝혔다.
리필리는 기존에 우유만 담겨있던 종이팩에 주방세제, 세탁세제, 섬유유연제, 샴푸, 바디워시 등 생활용품부터 화장품까지 다양한 제품을 담아 생산 제조하는 친환경 ESG 스타트업이다.
코로나 이후 환경문제 인식이 높아지면서 플라스틱 용기에 대한 거부감도 높아지고 있다. 이 같은 기조에 따라 기업들의 친환경 용기에 대한 수요가 많아지고 있지만 공급은 절대적으로 부족한 상황이다.
바이오 플라스틱, 생분해성 플라스틱 등 기존 플라스틱 용기를 재활용 혹은 재사용하기 위한 연구가 활발하지만 아직 재활용률은 미비한 수준이다. 또한 우유만 담겨있던 종이팩에 생활용품이나 화장품을 담아본 데이터가 없어 새거나 터지지 않는지 불확실하며, 종이팩 제품 기계가 국내에 없어 제품 생산이 불가능했다.
‘리필리(refeely)’는 플라스틱 대비 저렴하고 재활용이 더 쉬운 종이팩에 주방세제, 세탁세제, 샴푸, 바디워시, 스킨토너 등 생활용품부터 화장품까지 다양한 제품을 담을 수 있는 솔루션을 제공한다. 종이팩은 수거 후 100% 고급 화장지로 재활용이 가능하며 플라스틱 대비 생산부터 폐기 되는 과정 시 발생하는 탄소배출량을 3분의 1 수준으로 낮출 수 있다.
환경 개선뿐만 아니라, 플라스틱 용기보다 종이팩의 가격이 제품별에 따라 낮기 때문에 가격 경쟁력도 확보할 수 있다. 또한 리필리는 종이팩 용기에 담을 수 있는 제품 성분 분석 및 데이터화를 통해 B2B 기업들에게 생활용품, 화장품을 종이팩에 안전하게 담을 수 있도록 샘플링 및 테스트도 제공한다.
기업들은 벌써부터 리필리에 러브콜을 보내고 있다. 올해 리필리는 LG소셜캠퍼스, 윤민창의재단 굿스타터 11기, 롯데 L-CAMP 10기, 한솔V프론티어 3기, 신한퓨처스랩 8기, H-온드림 10기, 이니스프리 스타트업 오픈스테이지에 잇따라 선정되면서 대기업과 협력 및 네트워크를 통해 확장 가능성이 높아지고 있다.
넥스트드림엔젤클럽 관계자는 리필리에 투자하는 이유를 ‘종이팩 패키징 솔루션 부문의 차별적인 경쟁력을 보유하고 있는 점’과 ‘글로벌 시장 진출 가능성’이라고 밝혔다.
리필리가 지속적인 테스트를 통해 종이팩 패키징 및 충진 부분의 차별적 경쟁력을 보유하고 있으며, 대기업 등으로부터 주문을 받으며 실적 상승 가능성이 상당히 높다고 판단했다. 또한 우유팩 등 일부 제품에만 한정적으로 사용하던 종이팩이 생활용품, 화장품 등으로 확장 가능성이 매우 높다는 점과 글로벌 시장 진출이 가능하다는 점을 투자 사유로 밝혔다.
리필리 김재원 대표는 “이번 시드 투자유치를 통해 자동화 기계 및 공장 설비를 구축하고 제품 생산 공정 작업을 마칠 계획”이라고 밝혔다. 또한 그는 “이후 8월부터 본격적인 제품 생산을 시작할 예정”이라면서 “리필리는 친환경 생활용품 및 화장품을 판매하는 기업들을 대상으로 제품 생산 및 마케팅을 진행할 예정이며 내년에는 식료품 시장으로도 진출할 계획”이라고 말했다.
이어 “다양한 모양과 사이즈, 재질 부분에서 종이팩 용기 R&D 개발을 시작하여 글로벌 패키징 시장으로 도전장을 내미는 것을 목표로 하고 있다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
